The McGuinty government is launching "All About Ontario," a new citizenship
curriculum designed to ease newcomers' transition by teaching them more about
life in this province, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Mike
Colle announced. All About Ontario' is claimed to be a part of the McGuinty
government's comprehensive plan to break down barriers for newcomers. The
province invested almost $100,000 to develop this curriculum resource.
"Understanding Ontario's traditions and the responsibilities of
citizenship are important elements for newcomers making a successful transition
to life in this province," Colle said. "That's why we're launching this new
teaching tool for adult newcomers to learn about the province's history,
geography, government and elements of responsible citizenship such as voting and
volunteering."
"All About Ontario: A Curriculum Resource for Citizenship and
Language Training" will be incorporated into English as a second language (ESL)
and French as a second language (FSL) classes across the province. ESL and
FSL classes are held at most schools in Ontario, Canada and are open to Adults
also.
