Three New Designations To The Immigration & Refugee Board Of Canada

Three new designations to the Immigration and refugee board of Canada (IRB) were announced today by the citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism. Ms Shari. A. stein and Hazelyn Ross were designated the deputy chairperson of the immigration Appeal Division and Assistant deputy Chairperson respectively, in the Toronto Office. Whereas, in the Vancouver office, Ross A Pattee was designated the assistant deputy chairperson.

These designations were announced by Minister Kenney. Ms Stein started her career as a law clerk, worked as an advocate and was working with IRB since April 17, 2001. Ms Ross too is lawyer by profession and was initially appointed in the board in August 7, 2001. On the other hand, Mr Pattee used to work with Insurance corporation of British Columbia where he held senior management positions. He was initially appointed by the board on July 18, 2005.

The IRB is an independent administrative tribunal and was created in 1989. It reports to the Parliament through the minister of citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism. It consists of three divisions called the Refugee protection division, the immigration appeal division and the immigrant division. The IRB is responsible for determining refugee protection claims made in Canada, hearing immigrant appeals and conducting admissibility hearings and detention reviews. It also decides who needs refugee protection among the thousands of claimants who come to Canada annually. It has been known to make decisions on immigration and refugee matters efficiently, fairly, transparently and justly. It contributes to reinforcing the Canadian security system and help shape our future.
