As of May 19th 2009, the
Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has
removed certain occupations from its list of qualifying occupations for
the popular U.S. Visa Holder category. Eight Information Technology
(IT) occupations are no longer listed as "occupations under pressure"
in Alberta. Applicants with work experience in these occupations are no
longer qualified for the program.
In January of 2009, Alberta Canada officially announced that it had approved a Fast Track Program designed for U.S H1B workers to gain Landed Immigrant Status to Canada.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) allows H1B workers who are currently employed in a H1B position that is listed as an occupation of high pressure can qualify for the Permanent residency with NO job offer or employer requirement. The AINP is designed to support Alberta's economic growth by attracting labour-market-destined immigrants to the province.
Alberta is constantly revising its list of qualifying occupations based on changing labour market needs in the province. Further changes may be introduced without notice.
The process for applying to the AINP is different, depending on the stream and category you are applying under. Visit the
Alberta Official Immigration Website to find out more about the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program
